INFO:A skilful player, Jean-Paul Rostagni was a very talented and lively defender. His character was that of a Southerner, fiery and impulsive. He also had a very good vertical trigger.
Rostagni started out at AS Monaco. After 4 years spent in the Principality during which he took his first steps in the French team, he joined the Girondins in December 1969 with a 5-year contract. Holder from the outset, he brought all his quality to the Bordeaux collective. A 6th place awaited the Girondins at the end of the season. During the only full season he played with Bordeaux, he contributed to obtaining a fine 5th place, by accumulating 40 matches in all competitions. Alongside his club career, he continued to attend the national team, totalling 25 caps between 1969 & 1973. In June 1971, he signed for PSG for the club's first season in D1. Major player and indisputable holder of the workforce, he played a full season and helped the club to maintain its sporting position in 1972. During the PSG-PFC split, Rostagni continued a season at Paris FC (calling it a bullshit) then he had to resign himself to an early retirement from sport while playing for Nice, at the age of 27, because of a serious knee injury.
