He was a fanatic player who played with the same dedication until he was 43 years old. As a player, Pim Doesburg could be compared to a barrel of gunpowder. If something didn't please him or something went wrong in the field, the goalkeeper exploded! Doesburg is the Eredivisie record holder in matches played, with 687 in total in a 25-year career. Too nervous, mostly on the line, but spectacular goalkeeper with a fine reach, indestructible. He learned how to fall in Judo, his coach De Visser threw him in the air. He was a good keeper, not a great keeper. His specialty - lighting fast reflexes.

Doesburg grew up in Rotterdam and ended up in the youth of Sparta at a young age. Here the goalkeeper made it to the first team, for which he would make his debut in 1962. After five seasons at Het Kasteel, Doesburg left for PSV, to return to Sparta in 1970. Here spent for another ten seasons and crowned himself Spartan with the most league games of all time. He made 471 league appearances for Sparta, won the KNVB Cup in 1966 and played sixteen matches in a European context. Later, in PSV he became a two time champion (1986, 1987).

As a Spartan, Doesburg made his debut in the Dutch national team in 1967, for which he would eventually play eight international matches. In 1978 he was part of the selection that reached the final at the World Cup in Argentina, two years later, at the age of 36, he would make his European Championship debut against Greece.
