Pirkner had a nice dribbling with an amazing acceleration and possessed a very strong shot too. He would often cut from the wing in search for a shot or strong cross. From a young age, Pirkner played for Admira Wien (with two brief appearances in Klagenfurt and at FAC) before moving to the German Bundesliga with Schalke. During the "Bundesliga scandal of 1971" - he got himself a ban from August 5, 1972 to August 4, 1974 and a fine of 2,300 DM. Was pardoned by the Austrian Football Association on August 15, 1973. After that he played in Donawitz where he scored goal after goal for the Upper Styrians. Hans Pirkner played for Austria Wien for four years (1974-1978) and was able to record no fewer than two championship titles and one cup win. Along with Thomas Parits and Julio Cesar Morales, he formed the so-called 100-year storm. Although he had to admit defeat to Hans Krankl in the battle for top scorer in 1978, he still scored incredibly important goals for Wiener Austria. In the semifinals of the European Cup of Cup Winners against Dynamo Moscow in front of 70,000 spectators in the Prater Stadium, he converted his two penalties in a hard-fought match. Pirkner earned 20 caps, scoring four goals for the Austrian national team. After the 78 World Cup in Argentina, Pirkner said goodbye to his professional career and concentrated on business life, taking on an interesting job at Rank Xerox. Spoiler: show |
