One should not expect brilliant tricks or spectacular positions from him, he always looked for the simplest effective solutions. He was considered very reliable and was consistent in his performance. The team could always count on him. He was characterised by his short and long passing and long shots. Zombori started his football career at Pécsi MFC . In 1971, he was promoted to the team of the first team and in the season 1971/1972 made his debut in his colors in the Hungarian first league. In 1975 he was relegated from Pécsi MFC to the second division and then left for Vasasu Budapest. In the 1976/1977 season, he won his one and only national title with Vasas, and in 1981 he won the Hungarian Cup. In 1982, Zombori left for France and became a player of the local club Montpellier HS . In Montpellier he played in the games of the second league of France . He ended his career there in 1985. He appeared in the Hungarian national team 26 times between 1975 and 1982 and scored 3 goals. He was a pillar member of the Hungarian team that participated in the 1978 FIFA World Cup held in Argentina, being a starter in all three group matches. The goal he scored for the national team in the intercontinental World Cup qualifier against Bolivia in Budapest is memorable. With the score 2:0, in the 21st minute, he opened the door for the South Americans with a powerful long shot. The television crew also missed the goal. Spoiler: show |
