Defence MindedINFO:Kereki was a calm and reliable sweeper who liked to go up for headers and shots. He was a true leader in the field who helped the Hungarian NT qualify to the 1978 World Cup.
During his career, Zoltán Kereki played 314 games in the Hungarian First Division, scoring 50 goals, and 23 games in the Austrian First Division, scoring 6 goals. In 1973 he left for Szombathelyi Haladás, in which he made his debut in the 1973/1974 season in the first division. In the season 1974/1975 he reached the final of the Hungarian Cup, which Haladás lost 2: 3 to Újpest. In 1976, he was elected the Footballer of the Year. He achieved his best performance in the 1976–77 season, where he scored 11 goals with the Szombathelyi Haladás club. The same season, his team ranks fifth in the Hungarian championship. Within European competitions, Zoltán Kereki plays two matches in the UEFA Cup and 4 matches in the Cup (one goal).
A Hungarian international, he received 37 caps and scored 7 goals for the Hungarian team between 1976 and 1980. He was part of the Hungarian squad in the 1978 World Cup, being the captain during the 3 matches played by his selection (Argentina, Italy and France).
