László Nagy was one of the defining players of the golden age of football in Újpest in the 70s. Dózsa of Újpest characterizes his strength well, it even happened that the winger only sat on the bench in his team, while he played as a starter in the Hungarian national team.
In 1962 , he started playing football in the Fonyód football team, then in 1965 he transferred to Újpesti Dózsa, where he experienced the greatest success of his career. His first adult success was the gold medal won at the 1968 Olympics in Mexico City. He became the Hungarian champion for the first time in 1969, which he defended six times in a row with Dózsa, and is the owner of the Hungarian championship title nine times. In addition, the five-time MNK winner [in 1969, 1970, 1975, 1982 and 1983] also won the Hungarian People's Republic Cup. He played in 355 top flight matches, scoring 94 goals.
He played for the Hungarian national football team for the first time in 1970. In 1974, he was a member of the youth European champion team. After minor setbacks in 1978 and 1979, he was Hungarian champion again with Dózsa, and in 1982 , there was a MNK victory. He left Újpest in 1983, then spent one year in the Swiss Locarno team.
As part of the national team, he was a participant in the 1978 World Cup in Argentina, where he played in all three matches, however, in the tournament Hungary did not make it through the group stage. He appeared in the Hungarian national team twenty-five times, scoring 7 goals.
