Turbo engine of the 70s. Defensive midfielder with a great slide tackle. Nice short and long passing skills. Ran a lot and covered a lot of field, he put his heart on the field. They call him Hungarian Gattuso of the time but he was more than that. During the Kutas era (1974-1978), which focused on fitness, Sándor Pintér was the prototype and propaganda player, who produced a huge amount of runs and had a great work ethic.
In 1970, at the age of twenty, he became a footballer for Honvéd. In the second half of the 1970s, he was one of the key players of Kispest and the national team.
In 1977 he was voted Hungary's Footballer of the Year. In the season 1979/1980 he became the Hungarian champion with Honvéd. Their participation in the 1978-1979 UEFA Cup was memorable. In the first round, the Turkish Adanaspor team was dismissed with a superior score (6-0, 2-2). In the second round, they overcame Politechnika Temesvár, who were saying goodbye to the MTK-VM (4-0, 0-2). Among the top 16, the opponent was three-time BEK winner Ajax Amsterdam. In the first match, in Budapest, the team from Kispest won 4-1 and thanks to this, they advanced (4-1, 0-2). In the quarter-finals against Duisburg in West Germany, Pintér was a reserve in both matches due to injuries. They lost 3-2 at home. In the return match, the team with the young people won a bravura 2-1 victory. After Honvéd, Pintér went on trial with Royal FC Antwerp during the 1982-1983 season, but never recovered from a previous injury and never played a game with the team. It also marked the end of his playing career.
Sándor Pintér played 39 matches for the Hungarian national team, scoring two goals, between 1975 and 1978. He received his first cap with Hungary on March 26, 1975, in a friendly against France (2-0 defeat in Paris). In October 19, 1975, he scored his first goal with Hungary, in a match against Luxembourg entering the Euro 1976 qualifiers. He scores his second goal onOctober 29, 1977, against Bolivia , as part of the 1978 World Cup qualifiers ( 6-0 victory in Budapest ). He was in the squad for the 1978 World Cup playing all three matches: against Argentina , Italy , and France. He was twice captain of the Hungarian selection in october 1978, in matches against the USSR and Greece entering the Euro 1980 qualifiers.
