Calm and confident in his actions. Not the best reaction, he was a bit slow but with excellent positioning and his size helped him to cover a large portion of the goal and seem intimidating. In 1979, he was awarded Guldbollen as Sweden's best footballer of the year. The 1.94 tall Möller was a great talent in handball but chose football when he got the chance in the Allsvenskan and kept a clean sheet against Örgryte on October 29, 1972. In 1974 he became Swedish champion for the first time. In 1975, he stood for a brilliant effort when Malmö met FC Magdeburg in the European Cup. Möller saved four of five penalties in the shootout and Malmö advanced to the second round. Möller played a big role for Malmö in the European Cup 1978/79 with keeping a clean sheet against teams, such as AS Monaco, Dynamo Kiev and Austria Wien. He helped Malmö FF reach the European Cup final in 1979. For this achievement, the team was awarded Svenska Dagbladet's gold medal in 1979 and Jan Möller and the other teammates were awarded miniature copies of the medal. In 1980, he became Sweden's first professional goalkeeper in England, playing for Bristol City. After two seasons in England, Möller accompanied coach Houghton, who had been fired, to the Toronto Blizzard and played there for one season on artificial turf. In 1984 Möller came back to Malmö FF again. MFF won the Swedish Cup with Möller in the team in 1984. Roy Hodgson became the new head coach of Malmö FF and Janne Möller contributed strongly to a league gold during the year. Möller then became Swedish champion again with Malmö FF in 1986 . In 1978, he was selected as a reserve goalkeeper in the World Cup squad. He debuted for the National team in 1979 vs the Soviet Union. But it was against England that he played a fantastic match. Stefan Thylin wrote in Aftonbladet: It wasn't Keegan's fault that the international ended 0-0. Rather, Janne Möllers. The goalkeeper was formidable. His game was world class. It was, of course, especially fun for Möller to save the close-range shot that Trevor Francis, who played completely frisked, shot. Francis, who ten days earlier scored the winning goal for Nottingham in the European Cup final against MFF. While Shilton wanted Möller's shirt, Åby Ericsson said - Now Sweden has the world's two best goalkeepers! Möller played a total of 17 A national matches, largely due to having competition in one of the best ever - Ronnie Hellström Spoiler: show |
