Very reliable player, confident in defense and aggressive forward with rushes on his edge. Nice swerve on free kicks and crosses. His great playing talent was what initially caught MFF's interest. But in addition to skill in the game itself, he displayed great authority and an indomitable will on the pitch, which eventually made him a natural leader and figurehead. He was a leader who led the team that was built up during the 1980s. Many MFF players who grew up during this period still see Ingemar Erlandsson as one of their biggest football idols. Constantly on a high level, the many path-winning passes, the skill in the defensive game and the never-ending will to fight that comes to the fore. He was stable at a high level and the kind of skilled and solid team player that successful teams are built around. Ingemar Erlandsson was born on November 16, 1957. HHis football talent was cultivated at Trollavallen, Glimåkra IF's home ground, and brought him as a promising left winger to the junior national team. He was noticed by Malmö FF and left Glimåkra IF in 1976 to become part of Bob Houghton's team building. The A-team debut came already in March. He also made his Allsvenskan debut the same year in the last series match of the season, but otherwise the first year was mostly spent in the reserve team. By Bob he was retrained as a capable left back, a position and a role where he would quickly make a name for himself. He took over as regular left-back in MFF as a 19-year-old and was one of many key players in the team that won the Swedish championship in 1977. The following year, he made his debut in the national team where he immediately became a regular. He played all three matches in the World Cup in Argentina in 1978. Both for Ingemar and for the team, the successes continued. Malmö FF faced the fantastic European Cup season 1978/79 which culminated in the final against Nottingham Forest. Ingemar played all the minutes from the first round to the final. For MFF, it also meant playing in the World Cup final against Olimpia from Paraguay, where Ingemar scored MFF's only goal. Between 1978 and 1985, Erlandsson won 69 caps for Sweden, scoring 2 goals. The leadership qualities made him team captain not only in Malmö FF but also in the national team, from 1981 onwards. Unfortunately, he played during a period when the national team was not very successful. Spoiler: show |
