INFO:
A one-club man, Andersson played his entire career in Malmö FF as a central defender. With that club he won the league title five times and the Swedish Cup as many times. 325 Allsvenskan matches and 21 goals. He ended his career in 1983. Undoubtedly one of Himmelsblått's greatest of all time.

In addition to his strength in general, Roy Andersson had made himself known as a free-kick cannoneer. He took long free kicks, although it was not a goal that often. He was stable for his physique. The muscular thighs and strong legs were the reason why Roy had an enormously fine strike on the ball. It was heard over Backarna, Kulladal and Limhamn - Roy! Roy! Roy! Then everyone knew what was going on: MFF had received a free kick at the Stadium.

He made his debut in Malmö FF in 1967, where he was signed from Kirseberg for 5,000 kroner. In 1973 Andersson was taken to a national team camp but did not get the chance in the national team until 1974 when he played his first international match. For a period he refused to play for the national team as he prioritized his family. In 1977 he returned to the national team and was awarded the Golden Ball in 1977. In the justification, it was said that he received the award for "his decisive efforts in both club and national teams". He was selected in the World Cup squad in 1978 and played all three matches Sweden played. In 1979, Malmö FF reached the final of the European Cup, but Andersson could not play due to a knee injury. After a 14-month injury absence, Anderson returned to MFF where he played until 1983 and then wound down in Höllviken.

Andersson earned 20 caps for the Sweden national team.
