INFO:Kent Jönsson was an old fashioned centre back with a strong heading game. A bit slower, he would often play deep balls from the back.
Jönsson transferred from Lunds BoIS to Malmö FF in 1974 where it took him a while until he grabbed a spot in the starting line-up. It wasn't until Bo Larsson, a former forward who now played as defender, was injured during the quarter-finals of the 1978–79 European Cup away against Wisla Krakow. Malmö made it all the way to the final and Jönsson was in the starting line-up for Malmö who ultimately lost the game 1–0 at the Olympic Stadium in Munich.
Jönsson took part in the two matches Malmö played in the 1979 Intercontinental Cup against Club Olimpia, with a defeat suffered by the Swedish club. Jönsson won Allsvenskan two times with the club. During the end of his career he transferred to IFK Trelleborg where was a youth coach briefly after his career had ended.
Swedish international, he received five selections for the Swedish team, not scoring any goals between 1979 and 1980. His first national team match took place on September 5, 1979 against France (1-3 defeat at Solna ) in the context of qualifying for Euro 1980. His last match was a meeting in the Nordic Championship on May 7, 1980 against Denmark (0-1 defeat in Gothenburg).
