Great work capacity and had a hell of a fitness, he could run endlessly and had a good understanding of the game. Fearless in his forward runs, a very strong work ant both forward and backward, as he also had a fine share in defence. Lefty but could use right well. His speed was higher than acceleration. He was largely instrumental in MFF reaching the European Cup final in 1979, scoring some of the most important goals in the run. Nevertheless, it is a miss that is primarily associated with Jan-Olov Kindvall - in the final versus Peter Shilton! Kinnvall started playing football at Svenstorps IF. From there he moved to the youth of Malmö FF. Coach Bob Houghton thought he was a good runner and willing to train, but not enough of a ball player, the long pass was lacking. But the wait was worth. During the 1978 season he was promoted to the first team squad in the Allsvenskan, but still played mainly in the youth team. While he finished second in the league with last year's champions, he caused a sensation with the team in the 1978/79 European Cup, entering the final. There he missed the club's first European triumph by a Swedish club, as England representatives Nottingham Forest prevailed with a goal from Trevor Francis with a 1-0 win. Kinnvall could not build on the success of his first two years in adult football. Due to injuries to his back and groin, he was out for a long time. In 1983 he said goodbye to Malmö FF after a total of 145 games and joined the underclass performing Lunds BK. Here he ended his active career after six seasons. By the way - Over the years, he has changed his name on a couple of occasions. The first name with the spelling Jan-Olof changed rather quickly to the end - Jan-Olov. However, Jan-Olov was called Kinnvall in newspapers and other places throughout his career. It was actually only a few years ago that it was discovered that his name had always been Kindvall. Spoiler: show |
