INFO:Feline, agile, with a fine reaction and good and fast at leaving the goal to blow the ball up. The titular goalkeeper of FC Porto National Champion in 1977/78 and 1978/79. Stood out in the eyes of Porto supporters for his calm presence in front of goal, elegance in defending, presentation and security that gave confidence to everyone in the squad. His miraculous save in 1978 that prevented Benfica from scoring the 2nd goal eventually helped Porto win the title after a 19-year drought.
In addition to having marked a time at FC Porto, he was forever in the memory of all Porto players due to two hallmarks: his hoarse voice and the unmistakable mustache! Fonseca was FC Porto's goalkeeper during the famous 1977/78 season when FC Porto broke the 19-year drought without titles. Fonseca started his professional career at Leixões in 1966 and three years later he joined Benfica, where he represented for 3 seasons (from 1969/70 to 1971/72), but due to the little use he had at Luz, he would be loaned to Leixões in 1972/73. The following year he would live his first and only adventure abroad when he represented Ourense de España for two seasons. He would accept Varzim's invitation to return to Portugal in the 1975/76 season, and it was at the service of the Póvoa club that he performed that earned him the call to the National Team and later the invitation to represent FC Porto. His arrival at FC Porto coincided with the end of the 19-year period without titles and Fonseca ended up being one of the mainstays of José Maria Pedroto's 11 in winning the national championship at that time. In the 1978/79 season, Fonseca returned to repeat the victory in the National Championship. In 1981/82 Fonseca helped win the first Cândido de Oliveira Supercup for FC Porto. In 1982/83 he played 10 matches for FC Porto before returning to Spain and CD Ourense on loan, where he remained until the end of that season.
At the service of the Dragons, Fonseca was for 6 seasons. He won 4 titles and played 173 official matches.
