He was totally the opposite of Enver Maric and his idol was the great Ivan Curkovic. An excellent goalkeeper, he shot with his left foot, and as young, played center half, that helped him because he had a feel for the game.
Avramović discontinued his law studies two years into university to become a footballer. He began his playing career with FK Borac Čačak in the Yugoslav Second League in 1969. He defended for Borac from Čačak in 205 league games and scored 4 goals from penalties. Coach Gojko Zec brought him to Rijeka in 1974, and his full affirmation began at the club from Kantrida. As an irreplaceable goalkeeper with the club, he won the Yugoslav (Marshall Tito) Cup twice in a row (1978 and 1979) and the Balkan Cup (1978). In the period 1975-1979 played 162 league games.
Due to the unprecedented competition in the position of goalkeeper in Yugoslav football at the time, Radojko defended only once for the best national team - on November 15, 1978 in Skopje against Greece (4:1), as part of the Balkan Cup.
He was scouted by Notts County manager Jimmy Sirrel, who signed him for a club record £200,000 in 1979 and would later regard Avramović as one of his best players. He contributed with 16 clean sheets as the club was promoted to the First Division in 1981 in their return to the top flight after 54 years. He made a total of 167 appearances for Notts County before moving to Coventry City for the 1983–84 season. According to Sirrel, a team without a reliable goalkeeper cannot aim high, and Notts County got exactly that with Avramović. In 1984, he returned to Yugoslavia with OFK Belgrade where he played his final season, helping them to the Second League East Division title before retiring as a player at the age of 35.
In the end, 119 pro-league and one representative appearance, 2 cup wins, the most successful YU first league goalkeeper in the 1976/77 season; but also 164 appearances in the Premier League, the title of one of the best goalkeepers in England in the first half of the 80s.
