INFO:Van Deinsen was a versatile player who could be used anywhere on the left and in the left side of the midfield in general. A solidly fast player, with a fine cross and a fatal shot in the left leg. Ahead he usually played in the midfield, at Feyenoord he was left center fielder, left winger and also briefly left back. However, during his stay at Feyenoord he was haunted by injuries.
Jan Van Deinsen started as a youth player with Theole from Tiel, and made his debut on 12 September 1971 at the age of 18 for N.E.C. from Nijmegen in a match against Telstar. With N.E.C. he lost the final of the KNVB cup against NAC in May 1973. After relegation from N.E.C. to the Eerste Divisie in mid-1974, Van Deinsen moved to Go Ahead Eagles in Deventer. Two years later, the midfielder was recruited by Feyenoord in Rotterdam. In seven seasons he played 164 league games in which he scored 23 goals.
Van Deinsen played several times for the Dutch Junior Team. He was part of the pre-selection of the Dutch national team for the Euro 1976, but dropped out at the last minute. For the Euro 1980 he was part of the squad of the Dutch national team, but he had to drop out because he was not fully fit. On 10 September 1980, Van Deinsen played his only international match. After a bad European Championship that year, national coach Jan Zwartkruis had taken the broom through the selection. In a qualifying match for the 1982 World Cup in Dublin against Ireland, Joop Hiele, Ronald Spelbos and Toine van Mierlo made their debuts. The game (the storm match) was lost 2-1 and Van Deinsen was not called up after this.
