High stamina, solid jumping and heading ability. Fiard was skillful, had an excellent technique, with very quick movement. A pocket physique, he will quickly become one of the most remarkable recovery midfielders of the France championship, not complaining about the effort. He neutralized Platini in the 1981 Cup Final - it was his hour of glory. He was also one of the most consistent defensive midfielders from the early 1980s until his retirement in 1993 (played over 30 matches in each season) and played 437 matches in Division 1. The Cambodian-born player spent three years at INF Vichy training club in his native France, winning the Coupe Gambardella with his team before signing with first division club SEC Bastia in 1979 at the age of 20. After a first season with occasional appearances in the relegation battle, he was able to establish himself in his second year with the Corsican club and also celebrate winning the Coupe de France in 1981 thanks to a 2-1 win against AS Saint-Étienne. Because he was still a regular player, he remained loyal to the club until he moved to league rivals AJ Auxerre in 1984. At Auxerre, Fiard was given a permanent place in the team and gained experience in European competition in two years, in which he had previously been represented for one season in Bastia. However, due to strong youth work, the internal pressure increased, so that he turned his back on the club in 1987 and signed with Lille OSC. In the north of France, he secured a regular place at Lille for years despite his age, which he lost in the course of the 1992/93 season. At the end of it, Fiard decided to end his career at the age of 34 after 437 first division games and 28 goals. Spoiler: show |
