Not too physically strong, he would act too individuallly. Right footed, but comfortable with both feet, the ball would drop after his crosses. He could evolve as a forward, attacking midfielder, and left winger. Originally from the French overseas territory of New Caledonia, the player was included in the 1978 squad of French top-flight club SEC Bastia, who had reached the UEFA Cup final in the previous season. Nevertheless, the newcomer was able to establish himself in the team and displaced Jean-Marie De Zerbi to the substitutes bench. The following years were marked by the departure of many top performers, which meant a secure regular place for Ihily, but also brought the club to the brink of relegation in 1980. Despite a mediocre performance in the league, the team managed to reach the cup final in 1981; Ihily was on the pitch in the final and won the first title of his career thanks to a 2-1 win over AS Saint-Étienne. In the years that followed, he remained loyal to his club and played in all 38 league games in the 82/83 season; after being relegated with Bastia in 1985, he decided to leave the Corsican club. For the 1985/86 season, he signed with second division rivals Olympique Nîmes, where he held a regular place until he suffered a serious injury after a few weeks. Although he managed to return, he was not able to fully recover from the consequences of the injury; In view of this, he made the decision to end his career in 1987 at the age of 28. He then returned to his New Caledonian homeland and took up the profession of physical education teacher. Spoiler: show |
