A center forward who penetrates within 18 meters, whose ball coverage is astonishing and the right or left shots disconcerting. Excellent header shot, good movement and positioning. Very movable player who felt the space well, knew how to use it well and often found himself in 1on1 situations. He was also strong in duels.

He played as a centre-forward, from 1972 to the end of 1976 he made only 10 championship appearances with Partizan, in which he scored 2 goals. With Partizan, he won the title of Yugoslav champion in the 1975/76 season. He shows his quality in Galenika, and from 1980 to 1985 he played for Olympique Lyonnais. OL were looking for a center forward. On the advice of Ljuba Mihajlovic and Vladica Kovacevic, Fleury Di Nallo, the sporting director, went to scout a player in the Yugoslavian second division. Nikolic was 26 years old, had amateur status and was recovering from a major injury. He couldn't have seemed less tantalizing on paper! Cash-poor OL could only offer him the minimum wage and an exceptional bonus, in the very hypothetical case where the Yugoslavian striker managed to score 20+ goals in Division 1. He played one season for Beziers before finishing his career in Zemun in 1987.

Simo Nikolić played 100 matches in French Division 1, scoring 44 goals, and 82 matches in French Division 2, scoring 41 goals. His best performance came in the 1980-1981 season, when he scored 21 goals in Division 1 with Olympique Lyonnais.
