Neubert first played as a midfielder at Valenciennes, before acting as a stopper in Nancy for 6 years, winning the Coupe de France in 1978 together with Michel Platini. Very aggressive defensively but intelligent, Neubert was not too fast but had a really nice positioning, good heading and clearance abilities, overall efficient player in the air game.

The mustachioed man arrived at the age of 17 in the freezing cold of Valenciennes, playing eight great seasons with a title of champion of France D2 in 1972 and several selections in junior and military. He then moved to AS Nancy-Lorraine where he appeared 222 times for a dozen goals between 1977 and 1983. Former midfielder in the North, he had moved back a notch in Lorraine, becoming the starting and rigorous stopper of the ASNL, as in the final of the cup of France 1978 won by the band of Antoine Redin. After leaving Lorraine, Pierre signed a last pro contract at Toulon, before skimming the lower divisions at the end of his career in Hyères, Angoulême and Grenoble.
