A classy player with radian technique, sweet left foot, likes to slide through the middle to the goal, sometimes overcomplicating it. Whenever he could, he would launch a long shot, play a good through ball (a decent weighted pass too). He directed the game and had a natural ability to make the striker play. "When he gave you a ball, it would arrive at your feet, not 5 meters before or after". Along with his technique, he possessed a good balance, quick dribble, however didn't use his weaker foot that much. He took side free kicks often, with a fine curve.

Part of the glory years of Nimes, in the 4-2-4 system (playing as the orchestrator along Bonnet in the middle), he was feeding strikers and wingers of Nimes. Trained at Nîmes Olympique, he made his professional debut with the club on 7 May 1966 just before winning the Gambardella Cup against SC Toulon. During the 1967-68 season, he actively participated in the rise in Division 1 and also played with the hopes of Nîmes the first tournament of Toulon. Nîmes Olympique finished third in this competition won by RSC Anderlecht2.

In the 1971–72 season, he was a key part of the team with 37 games played and three goals scored, taking a very important part in the second place obtained in the league. Approached by many French clubs, including AS Saint-Étienne and AS Monaco, and European, FC Barcelona and Atlético Madrid, he declines all offers preferring to stay in his region. At the beginning of the following season, he won with his club, the Coupe des Alpes by beating in the final the Girondins de Bordeaux.

In June 1975 he was transferred to Lille OSC, being played at libero, before he made his return to the Jean Bouin stadium in June 1977. For his return to the "Crocodiles", coach Henri Noël repositioned him as a libero too. After two seasons, he signed on May 27, 1979 with Montpellier La Paillade then in Division 2. The case caused a stir since Montpellier PSC is the regional opponent of Nîmes Olympique. Indeed, with three league games remaining, president Paul Calabro expelled him from the team, accusing him of treason. Mézy thus loses first place in the ranking of the player of the year France-Football. In the Hérault, it becomes a centerpiece in central defense. In 1980, the team reached the semi-final of the Coupe de France after eliminating RC Lens and AS Saint-Étienne, the Pailladins only lost in extra time against AS Monaco. The following year, the club won Group A of Division 2 and moved up to Division 1 with Louis Nicollin's club.

This season in Division 1 is very difficult for the Montpellier club who find themselves last at the break. He stopped his professional career on December 20, 1981, after playing sixteen league games and on January 22, 1982, he was appointed general manager of the MPSC by Louis Nicollin.

Michel is an indisputable holder in the French National Team from 1970 to 1973 with 17 caps to his name.
