INFO:Stirring, athletic, efficient, with a particularly formidable head game and high jump. Moderately strong, with an okay back play who relied on short passes back to conquer space in the attack, or await the right cross from the wing. Not the most technical player.
He made his National Team debut in 1976, together with Platini. At that time, the French striker was one of the most feared scorers in D1. After passing through Rouen, Red Star and Nîmes, he really exploded in Sochaux, where his great skill in the zone and his superb relaxation flourished (62 achievements in the league in the space of four seasons).
Pintenat began his senior career in 1969 with the first division club FC Rouen. From 1970 he played for Red Star Paris and, after its relegation, in the 1973/74 season for Olympique Nîmes. Temporarily loaned to FC Sochaux, he played a few more games for Olympique in 1974/75 before returning to Sochaux, where Robert Pintenat had his most successful year in the 1975/76 season: his team finished third in the championship, he himself was 5th among the league's top scorers with 21 goals, and played three senior international matches for France between March and May 1976, in which he also managed to score a goal. After a year with AS Nancy (1978/79), he was signed by FC Toulouse, with whom he returned to the top flight in 1982. In 1983/84 he ended his career at the lower-class Olympique Avignon as a player-coach.
In total, Robert Pintenat has played 298 games for his clubs in Division 1, scoring 103 goals.
