INFO:Tireless, brave, displayed a high volume of play, Buigues was a hardworking and courageous defensive midfielder, Robert Buigues played for Olympique de Marseille in the 1970s: Vice-Champion of France in 1975, he played and won the final of the Coupe de France in 1976, against Lyon. He lacked a certain liveliness in action, speed of running to pass a course. Robert Buigues was the archetype of the good D1 player. He did not lack much to have a much flashier career. A shadow worker, he unfortunately did not enjoy the international recognition he might have deserved. Indeed, specialists during the 70s considered that he had missed a great career.
Born in the suburbs of Algiers, starting football in Six-Fours, Aulnay-sous-Bois and Juvisy-sur-Orge, Robert Buigues discovered the D2 in the ranks of Paris-Joinville. Recruited by Olympique de Marseille, he was loaned in 1971-1972 to SEC Bastia where he took his first steps in D1. At the end of the beautiful season in Corsica (finalist of the Coupe de France), he returned to Marseille. But he crossed the Mediterranean again in October 1972, this time to join AC Ajaccio, as part of Marius Trésor's transfer to OM. After the relegation of the club of the imperial city, Robert Buigues landed in Marseille and carved out a good reputation as a defensive midfielder in the Phocaean jersey, with whom he won the Cup of France 1976. While he thought to accomplish a new season with the Marseille club playing the first two days of the championship with OM, he yielded, in August 1976, to the forcing of Didier Couécou, freshly appointed sporting director of Bordeaux. Two months later, he was named captain of the Girondins by the leaders, proof of the club's desire to count him in its squad and his importance in the group. After two full seasons in the Bordeaux jersey, he let his heart speak and returned to Marseille, a return he had been waiting for since his forced departure to Gironde...He remained Marseille until the bankruptcy of the club in 1981 then continued and ended his beautiful and long career as a player (nearly 500 matches and scored a whopping 63 goals) in Orleans, Laval and Grenoble.
