INFO:A marauding type of playmaker, his game was made of technique and intelligence. A player for big occasions, he had a fine overview of the field. He started his career at Neuchâtel Xamax. He broke into the first team in 1974 and made his debut on 31 August against Grasshopper Club Zürich (3–1 for Xamax). In total he played 104 matches, in which he scored 35 goals. On 1 July 1979, he joined RC Strasbourg. In total, he played 38 games, scored 7 goals and had 3 assists and contributed to the team reaching European Cup quarter-finals, losing eventually to Ajax. On 1 July 1981, he joined Servette FC. In total, he played 164 matches and scored 27 goals. With Servette FC he won the championship and the Swiss Cup. He was gradually moving all the way back to the libero position during his Servette years. On 1 July 1988, he returned to Xamax, playing 30 matches and scoring 6 goals and also winning the Swiss Super Cup. At the end of the season, he announced his retirement from the game.
Decastel played 19 matches for the Swiss national team. He played the first of them on 27 October 1982 in a match against Italy (0:1 for the Swiss) and his last game was against Germany in 1986.
