INFO: Nicknamed "Bip-bip" for his speed and dribbling speed, he has only one goal: to go for it. He illustrated in every match: the straight line is the shortest way. Tireless, insatiable dribbler, well crossing winger, his crosses were sharp and low. He used to turn his opponents a lot with the fakes and then deliver a sharp cross. He took even corner kicks with a lot of sharpness. Stocky, strong on feet, low balance, high agility. The player was the darling of La Meinau with his crazy beard and shaggy hair. Not a scorer, but a couple of his goals helped the team in in 1978/79 championship winning season. Officially among the 1000 best players in D1 history (#961).
Joël Tanter arrived in Alsace at 16 to join the hotel school and signed at the same time as a cadet at FCSK O6, a Strasbourg neighborhood club. Before leaving for the army, he was spotted by the coach of RC Strasbourg, Paul Frantz, and then signed a non-solicitation contract in favor of the Strasbourg club. With the seniors of FCSK O6, he won the championship of division of honor of the league of Alsace in 1972 and the Cup of Alsace in 1973 and 19742, he graduated from the hotel school at the same time. Approached by AS Nancy-Lorraine, he joined RC Strasbourg in 1974 as a trainee and at the end of the season signed a four-year professional contract, despite a season where Hennie Hollink and Robert Domergue gave him few opportunities to shine. Joël Tanter gradually integrated into the Strasbourg professional group and helped the Alsatian club to return to Division 1 during the 1976-1977 season. The Strasbourgeois won at the end of the season the title of champion of division 2 by beating AS Monaco. The following year, under Gilbert Gress, the club finished third in the league, thus qualifying for the UEFA Cup.
Strasbourg won the title in 1979. The good results pushed Tanter to extend the adventure with RC Strasbourg by three years. At the end of the 1979-1980 season, he seriously injured his knee and was absent from the field for a year and a half. He played again on 17 October 1981 against Lille OSC. Declared undesirable at RC Strasbourg by Roger Lemerre, he then decided to leave the club for FC Rouen where Robert Vicot decided to make him play only away games, as Vicot said: "the public doesn't like you". In Tanter's own words: "Tt was incomprehensible, because the public had applauded me a few days earlier during a victory against Lille". He finished his career at AS Aix in 1984. He injured his knee again in a France Cup match against Hyères FC and had to end his career.
