Excellent centre back who played well 1on1 and had a very good recovery and anticipation in duels. And he had the distinction of giving a boost on the right flank of the defence when the situation called for it. Very quick and agile, low balance, physically strong. A true fighter, very combative. Able to play in all positions of defense and occasionally in the midfield. He is entrusted with the most diverse tasks - in defence or in midfield - and the work he presents at the end of the match is always well finished. A gold value for a team. His speed, technique and great defensive qualities allowed him to join the France national team where he accumulates only 6 selections from 1972-1975.
Jean-François Jodar joined Stade Reims in 1967 at the age of 17. At the beginning of his Reims years, Jean-François Jodar occasionally occupied the position of centre-forward, before settling very quickly in central defense. He also played regularly for the U-18 national team; with this he was in the final of the 1968 European Junior Championships. In the following season, he also became a regular player for the men, scoring seven goals. In 1970, Stade Reims returned to the first division, and Jodar, who had often played in midfield and was assertive due to his athleticism, was increasingly used as a defender. Although the team from Champagne finished until 1975 mostly in a single-digit place in the table, the best place remained a sixth place in the 1973/74 season.
In 1975, the previous season's third-placed team, Olympique Lyon, signed Jean-François Jodar. But even on the Rhône in the following four years, it was rather mediocre in the championship: again a sixth place in the final table (1977) was the best placement, and twice (1976 and 1978) Jodar with Lyon even narrowly escaped relegation. In the 1975/76 season, he even advanced to the final of the national cup, which was won 2-0 by Olympique Marseille. In the same season, Jodar also made his first two appearances in a European competition, when Lyon were eliminated by FC Brugge in the first round of the UEFA Cup after 4-3 (including a Jodar goal) and 0-3. In 1979, Jodar joined the reigning French champion Racing Strasbourg. His first season in Alsace ended with 5th place and thus the best championship finish of his entire playing career. Coach Gilbert Gress's team, in which Jodar played alongside Dominique Dropsy and Jacques Novi as well as his former Reims teammate Carlos Bianchi, also came relatively far in the European championship competition. After a clear win against start Kristiansand (2-1, 4-0) and a tighter one against Dukla Prague (0-1, 2-0 a.e.t.), the hurdle Ajax Amsterdam could not be overcome in the quarter-finals (0-0, 0-4). After four years at Strasbourg, he accepted an offer to work as a player-coach at the second division club Entente Montceau. However, the first season there ended with the relegation of the team coached by Jodar, whereupon he concentrated exclusively on coaching.
