A complete defender: he has held every position in his team. Defender first and foremost, had the reputation of a physical player. Right footed left back in the championship winning season of 1977/78, he had some semi-attacking bursts, but overall limited player who compensated it with his will and determination. This allowed him to be the captain of the 2nd championship team in 1982 (being a libero, replacing Courbis), playing almost every game in 1978 and 1982. Arriving from Algeria, this versatile defender was spotted by coach Jean Luciano at the beginning of the 70s. For 3 seasons, Vitalis is in apprenticeship in Monaco and despite the difficult results of the club, he did not feel necessary. He then signed for FC Tours where he really launched his career. But AS Monaco never lost sight of him and recovers him for the 1978 season. Nicknamed "The Marquis" in relation to the former name of his family whose particle has since been lost (Vitalis de Neuville), Vitalis shows an activity overflowing. Although right-footed, he imposed himself on the left side of the defense. and participated in the revival of the club (a 1978 title, a 1980 cup). During the 1982 season, Gérard Banide converted to the position of central defender to compensate for a Roland Courbis on the downward slope. Vitalis imposes himself as one of the best liberos in the championship. Having become captain of the team, Vitalis plays fair and knows how to respond when the match gets tougher, which is a valuable asset for a playing team but sometimes silenced against a rough opponent. A conversion that pays off for a player who celebrates in 1982 his second championship title with ASM. Vitalis has always known how to be entirely available to the team, participating in a minimum of 40 matches per season for 6 years in a row. He is one of the most capped players in the history of the club. Spoiler: show |
