After training at the Iris Club de Lambersart where his father was a coach, then at LOSC, Pierre Lechantre began his professional football career in 1970 at FC Sochaux. A left winger like his father, skilful and a good dribbler, he was twice semi-finalist of the France Cup and participated in the UEFA Cup in 1972 with FCSM. During his five seasons at Sochaux, he had several caps for the France espoirs and B teams. After a brief spell in Monaco (1975-1976), he signed for Stade Lavallois, which had just reached the D1. Permanent provider of balls for the center forward, he can also turn into a striker, despite his small size
