Would often be assigned to mark the opposing best player. He did not have the best heading skills nor the technique, in general not a lot of ball play from his end. He was a defence-first player who always gave his best and captained both the national team and the FC Wacker Innsbruck squad to multiple titles. Hans Eigenstiller worked at Vorwärts Steyr from 1954 to 1962. In 1962 he moved to Vöest Linz, and after a merger the club was then called SVS Linz. He made his first appearances in the state league with Linz. In 1965, a move to LASK already seemed certain when the Tyroleans got involved and signed the talent. From 1965 onwards, Hans Eigenstiller was a player for FC Wacker Innsbruck and played every championship game over the full distance for three years. In 1968 Eigenstiller wanted to move to Rapid to play in the European Cup, but FC Wacker refused permission. Hans Eigenstiller packed up his tent and moved to Vienna anyway. Already a national player at the time, he was initially only able to train with the Hütteldorfers. Wacker lost a lot of games during this time and so a compromise was reached: Hans was allowed to train in Vienna, but was supposed to travel to Innsbruck for the games, but he was then allowed to move to Rapid in the winter. The move to Vienna was not very successful, the registration was too late, so Eigenstiller was not eligible to play in the European Cup. In the winter of 1969/70 he returned to Innsbruck and won five championship titles, five cup victories and two Mitropacup titles with the Black-Greens. Despite his numerous games, at least 303 first division games, he only managed one championship goal, in the fall of 1970 he scored the winning goal in the home game against Wacker Vienna. Eigenstiller made his debut for Austria on 6 September 1967 in a 3–1 friendly defeat to Hungary in Vienna. During his career, he played in the qualifiers for Euro 68, the 1970 World Cup, the Euro 72, the 1974 World Cup and the Euro 76 qualifiers. From 1967 to 1975, he played 37 matches for the national team. Spoiler: show |
