INFO:
A dynamo in the midfield, Stering was a player who could be found literally everywhere in the field. Very fast, mazing runs when on the right wing, crosses with both legs. Very dangerous in attack, committed in defense, high stamina, loved to have the ball and send excellent through balls and long balls, used his outside foot as well.

In 1968, Styrian Sepp Stering moved from Voitsberg to the National league club GAK. As early as 1969, Stering was had his first national team experience. He stayed with the Graz team for four years before moving to VÖEST Linz. At VÖEST he was also able to make his first national titles. The last National League championship in 1974 the Linz team won ahead of SSW Innsbruck. When in the winter of 1975/76 the Dane Ove Flindt left the Innsbruck team, Sepp Stering was a replacement for Flindt. However, he would become more than a replacement for the people of Innsbruck. What many people don't know is that he wore the Wacker dress as early as 1968 in a test match against ATSV Steyrermühl, it took a long time....

After only a few missions in the spring of '76, Stering won the Bundesliga in 1976/77, playing all 36 championship games for the Tyroleans. In total, Sepp played 60 Bundesliga games (7 goals) for Wacker Innsbruck, seven cup games (1 goal) and made twelve international appearances, where the worker bee in midfield contributed five goals for the Innsbruck team. The trained electrician and roommate of Bruno Pezzey pulled the strings in midfield and was one of the best and most hard-working players ever to work in Innsbruck. Which earned him the nickname "bee". Stering was also a fixture in the national team in the Qualification for the 1978 World Cup. All 6 games he was in the formation. But one week after the successful qualification, this was the end of Sepp's great international career, so to speak. The gala performance against Celtic in the second leg in Salzburg remains unforgotten. Back to November 5, 1977. 42nd minute: The Admiral Peter Nowak brutally steps into Sepp Stering's knee from the front. Result: All ligaments torn, meniscus removed.

He fought doggedly to make a comeback to the World Cup - in vain. After the World Cup, he moved to German 1860 Munich. In 1978/79 he won the league title with the Lions in 2.Bundesliga South, and in the following season was able to play with the Lions to stay in the league. In the summer of 1980 he returned to Austria to his former club GAK. Unfortunately, he was not able to remember his great times with the Tyroleans. and ended his Bundesliga career in 1986. He moved to Bärnbach and worked there as a player-coach.
