INFO:
Haebermann was a libero who had a good eye for the game situations, was hard to get upset and very strong in the air. Defensively, he was a terrier who wasn't afraid of tackling and was pretty good at it.

Friedhelm Haebermann started playing football in Duisburg. In the 1967/68 season, he was promoted to the Regionalliga West with Eintracht Duisburg. Coach Günter Werschy's team was relegated in 17th place in the 1968/69 season. Haebermann had played 32 games and scored one goal. But the DFB had noticed his talent. The coach of the amateur national team, Udo Lattek, used him in two amateur international matches on 7 April and 1 May 1969. Helmuth Johannsen, the Bundesliga coach of Eintracht Braunschweig, believed in the talent from Ruhrort and gave him a contract for the 1969/70 season. The newcomers of the team from the stadium on Hamburger Straße in Braunschweig, in addition to Haebermann Max Lorenz, Bernd Gersdorff and Franz Merkhoffer, all belonged to the starting eleven of the 1969/70 round, but Eintracht could only just maintain the class with 16th place. Coach Johannsen ended his tenure and with Otto Knefler. In the 1970/71 season, Braunschweig finished almost sensationally in fourth place – Haebermann had played 25 games – and thus moved into the UEFA Cup for the 1971/72 round. In the international matches against Glentoran Belfast, Athletic Bilbao and Ferencváros Budapest, the defensive conductor gained valuable experience. His disappointment was all the greater when he and his team-mates could not avoid relegation in 1972/73. In 1973/74, Eintracht were promoted immediately under the influence of Haebermann. From the 1974/75 season, Haebermann had to deal with coach Branko Zebec. The advocate of space marking, consistent adherence to tactical guidelines and immense running training was good for Haebermann and Eintracht. After finishing ninth and fifth, he almost led them to the title in the 1976/77 round, and at the end of the round Libero Haebermann's team ended up in 3rd place, one point behind champions Borussia Mönchengladbach. In 34 games, the Eintracht defence led by centre-back Habermann had conceded only 38 goals. In his fourth year with coach Zebec, sponsor Günter Mast, the liqueur manufacturer from Wolfenbüttel, wanted to make the dream of the championship come true by force, Paul Breitner moved from Real Madrid to Braunschweig. At the end of the 1977/78 season, however, the team with the 32-year-old libero Haebermann ended up in 13th place in the table. In the European Cup, they were also knocked out in the third round by eventual UEFA Cup winners PSV Eindhoven after successes against Dynamo Kiev and Start Kristiansand. Friedhelm Haebermann ended his career in the Bundesliga in the summer of 1978. From 1969 to 1978, the 1.80 m tall libero had played 229 games for the Blue and Yellow Eintracht Lions with eight goals in the Bundesliga and 34 (2) in the Regionalliga Nord in 1973/74 and had not received a red card in eight rounds of Bundesliga football, only one yellow card for the defensive specialist, who acted with eye and positional play. In addition to the round-robin matches in the Bundesliga and Regionalliga, he also played for the Blue-Yellows in the DFB Cup (25-1), the European Cup (15-0) and the BL promotion round (8-0). In total, he is listed in the Eintracht statistics with 313 competitive games and 13 goals.

The defender from Duisburg-Ruhrort played his first two international matches for the DFB amateurs in 1969 in the uniform of Eintracht Duisburg. In his nine rounds in Braunschweig, 35 more appointments followed. The sporting highlight was the immediate preparation and the Olympic tournament itself in 1972. In the year of the European Football Championship and the 1972 Olympic Games, Friedhelm Haebermann played 16 international matches with the amateur national team. Together with Heiner Baltes, Bernd Nickel and Egon Schmitt, he played all six games of the Olympic football tournament from start to finish for the German team. After losing 3-2 to East Germany in Munich on 8 September 1972, he ended his career in the amateur national team after 37 appearances.

In 1971, Haebermann was fined 4,400 DM for his involvement in the Bundesliga scandal. However, the BTSV players had not postponed a game, but only collected a bonus from a third party.
