INFO:
An all-round player, Glowacz was a highly versatile player who played all along the right side or in the centre of the field. But when needed, he would occupy also left back or left winger positions. A combative player, with good balance and almost mazing runs which were left from his right winger days, Glowacz had a strong shot, sharp crosses and was useful in defense, covering a vast part of the right midfield side.

Born and raised in Cologne, Jürgen Glowacz started his football career at Schwarz-Weiss Köln. The trained right winger played his way into the DFB student selection at the age of 15. The then FC youth coach Josef “Jupp” Röhrig ensured that Glowacz moved from Schwarz-Weiss Köln to FC in 1967. On July 11, 1971, Glowacz was part of the FC A youth team, who became German youth champions after the 3-1 final victory over 1.FC Nürnberg. Three players from the championship team subsequently received professional contracts with FC: Josef Bläser - Harald Konopka and Jürgen Glowacz.

Glowacz developed into a first-class all-rounder among licensed players. Whether on the right wing, variably in midfield or later as an offensive right-back, Glowacz found a variety of uses. Until 1977 he mostly belonged to the "Billy goat" tribe, although he sometimes had to settle for the joker role. Nevertheless, there were many successes to celebrate, such as the German runner-up in 1973, or the “final of the century” in the 1973 DFB Cup against Borussia Mönchengladbach (1-2 NV). The title of military world champion with the Bundeswehr selection also belongs in the list of successes. Together with FC colleagues Herbert Neumann, Herbert Hein and Harald Konopka, in 1975 he defeated the Dutch representatives 1-0 in the final.

There was no chemistry right from the start with coach Hennes Weisweiler, who has been back at FC since 1976. In addition, there was a stubborn Achilles tendon injury that repeatedly set Glowacz back. In the fall of 1977 the situation escalated, and after another argument with Weisweiler, during the "double season" of 1977/1978, Glowacz was loaned out to Werder Bremen for a fee of 100,000 German marks. Nevertheless, Glowacz had previously played in both the league and the cup and is entitled to do so also called “double winners”. In the summer of 1978 Glowacz returned to FC, the discrepancies with Weisweiler remained. Glowacz moved to newly promoted Bayer Leverkusen in 1979.

Glowacz played 260 competitive games and scored 29 goals for FC. He also made 2B caps/0 goals for Germany (1975-1976)
