INFO:
Ilja Katic is arguably the most efficient player in Switzerland's top football league. He played for FCZ for three years, won the league three times and the cup once. In 75 games for Zurich, the Serb scored an incredible 50 goals. Fast and explosive - the standard winger and the fastest footballer of Yugoslavia at the time (It is said that he was the fastest Partizan player of all time). Most often played right wing and striker in Zurich. Wandering winger, moves a lot and helps the defense. Fighted until the end. Katic didn't have a "bicycle", his dribbles were not specialized. His weapon was the ball in front and Katic classic overtaking. Good heading game. At 100 meters he had a remarkable time of 11.1 seconds.

Katić began playing with his home-town club FK Mladost Hasići. In 1962 he joined FK Borac Šamac where he stayed two seasons. Here he was declared the best player of the club for the first 100 years of its existence. He joined NK Osijek in 1964, named NK Slavonija back then, and played in the Yugoslav Second League, and very quickly becomes the best scorer and is twice named the best center forward of the Western Group 2. In 1967, he moved to giants FK Partizan where stayed until 1973 and became a national team player.

In 1973, he moved abroad and joined Swiss side FC Zürich where he played the next three seasons. He baceme top scorer in the Swiss first league and was named the best foreign footballer in Switzerland. In 1976, he played one season in Spain with La Liga side Burgos CF and later returned to Switzerland and played in top league sides Neuchâtel Xamax and FC La Chaux-de-Fonds. He finished his career in Liechtenstein and became a coach.

Katić played four matches for the Yugoslavia national team in 1968 and 1969. He made his debut on 19 December 1968 against Brazil, and his last national team match was on 30 April 1969 against Spain. As a representative of Yugoslavia, he won a gold medal at the Mediterranean Games in Izmir in 1971.
