Very fast, Henk was an amazing right-wing defender, strong in the duel 1:1 both defensively and offensively, excellent running ability, fantastic mentality, a winner in one word. Henk was also known to contribute to Kees Kist's goals with timely crosses. Van Rijnsoever, born and raised in the working-class district of Lombok in Utrecht, was educated successively at Zwaluwen Vooruit and USV Elinkwijk, before being included in the first team of the Alkmaar football club. He was part of one of the most successful AZ squads in ages. AZ ́s golden era covered the period mid-1976-mid-1982 (seasons 1976/77-1981/82). With the club, Van Rijnsoever won the national cup three times and the national championship once. They also reached the final of the UEFA Cup in 1981, but lost to Ipswich Town (3-0 away loss, 4-2 home win). Henk van Rijnsoever played his last game at the professional level on May 9, 1981; In the home game against Willem II (3-3), he scored the third goal for the Alkmaar team. Some serious injuries prevented him from playing a single game the following season, after which the defender decided to end his career at the age of 30. Van Rijnsoever played one game for the Dutch national team; On 31 May 1975 he started in the starting line-up in the 3–0 friendly against Yugoslavia. He was one of the four Dutchmen who made their debut in this game; Bert van Marwijk, Nico Jansen and Heini Otto also made their first appearance in the national team. The AZ player was also a member of the squad for the 1976 European Championship in the same Yugoslavia. The Netherlands eventually finished third, but Van Rijnsoever did not play as a reserve.
