INFO:A typical centre-half, commanding and strong, he was a hard-working, competitive defender, good in the air with a high jumper (though less good on the ground), and his authority on the field was such that he was first chosen to captain the Birmingham side at the age of only 19. Would move up to CF in the dying minutes as he was ever a threat in both penalty areas and a danger on set pieces. Had a knack on scoring vital goals.
Gallagher became a regular for Blues but broke his leg in a car crash in 1977 and recovered his fitness by playing in Finland for a stint. He scored on his return to first team duty in December 1977, and for the remainder of his Birmingham career he was virtually ever-present. Overall Gallagher played 335 times for Blues, captained the club and scored 23 goals - enough to earn him a place in the club’s Hall of Fame - "The Magnificent Seven"
Gallagher made his one and only international appearance in a B international with Australia - in a game played at St Andrew’s.
