Planelles endorsed, in the field of game, with his wisdom, his incredible passes, his impressive receptions and his unparalleled gameplay vision. He was one of those players who by himself could have solved one game. Overall, Planelles was a strong interior with a lot of technique, with arrival in the area and brave in the air. Intelligent, ellegant, Planelles was compared to the best of the best of the time. When he was young, he returned the ball with his left "because with his right all know how to give it", signing very early for Real Madrid (at 16 years old) and even playing and scoring in the 1970 Cup final! In 1972/73, the performances of the Burriana native were fundamental for this to be one of the best seasons in the history of the club, with a 5th place and Cup Final! The final was lost, but in general, through the middle, the striker (Planelles) advanced and touched the center forward (Clarés), tabulating and reversing the roles with him. For Planelles, the season would be even more special because it marks the first of his two matches with the Spanish national team, in a friendly against the Netherlands in Amsterdam in May. Later, in October, he would wear the Spain shirt again in a friendly against Turkey, the same one in which Clarés would make his only game for the national team. At that time, however, Planelles had already been negotiated with Valencia. And Clarés, at the end of the 1973/74 season, would go to Barcelona. His later career was full of injuries and somehow his potential was not shown fully. Of his class and personality in the countryside, it is enough to recall this phrase by José María Arquimbau, one of the more convinced planellistas: "Watching him play is something similar to the show offered by a Peralta jackfruit in a bullring. There's nothing, neither more beautiful, nor of greater plasticity", and Arquimbau was right, Planelles was a footballer from another galaxy, too bad about the injury, and the little that some coaches understood. Planelles did not leave anyone indifferent because if for some he was a phenomenon, a good scorer and dribbler for others he was an apathetic footballer who hardly showed interest. Vicente Del Bosque stated that Planelles has been the best player he has seen in his entire career... Spoiler: show |
