INFO:Elegant, intelligent and extraordinarily high-performance defender. A very complete defender, Technically correct, practical & intelligent, he had a good aerial game, fast in the first meters and enormous nobility in marking (as he did many times with Santillana e.g.). Gonzalez formed a legendary duo with Violeta, acting as a sweeper and letting Violeta as a front stopper/deep defensive midfielder in front. In his long career, he was never sent off and no centre-forward of his time can say that he received a malicious tackle from him. "González is chewing gum. There's no way to get him off his back, but he doesn't kick," said Peruvian striker Seminario after a Zaragoza-Barcelona match. Manolo González was a gentleman on and off the pitch and a footballer highly respected by his teammates and much loved by the fans of La Romareda.
He was such a starter that there were two seasons in a row that he didn't miss a single minute of play. He remained with Zaragoza for 11 seasons, taking his overall appearance tally to 374, scoring 2 goals.
