INFO:
García Castany was a right-sided midfielder of enormous class. Elegant, very technical, with vision of the game and arrival in the area. He had a great shot and a formidable dribble in the dry. He lacked, perhaps, character and a greater spirit of sacrifice to be a great in Spanish football. Formidable specialist in penalty kicking: he scored 14 of his 15 shots. He formed an exceptional midfield with Planas and Arrúa. Castany was a modern interior/attacking midfielder who always had the inertia to get into the box. He was not too fast, but he was constantly moving around the field, used very well both of his legs and would often launch long balls from the deep.

He started with La Salle Girona and after being proclaimed champion of Spain with the Catalan youth team (1965) he signed for FC Barcelona. Right midfielder, after playing with Barça's youth team and Condal (1966-67) he was loaned to Osasuna (1967-68) and Calvo Sotelo (1968-69). In the 1969-70 season he joined the Barça first team, where he remained until the 1970-71 edition. He played 63 games, scored nine goals and was a Cup champion (1971).

He then stood out at Real Zaragoza (1971-78), with whom he was runner-up in the league in the 1974/75 season. In the remembered 6-1 win over Real Madrid that season, he scored a hat trick. He was awarded by Mundo Deportivo as the best player in the 1974-75 League. A serious injury cut short his career at Real Zaragoza and in the 1980-81 campaign he reappeared with Girona. He ended up playing for Banyoles (1981-84).

He once played for the Spanish Olympic team and was also a youth international.
