He played for Atlético Madrid between 1969 and 1974, winning the Spanish La Liga in 1970 and 1973, and the Copa del Rey in 1972. He managed to reach the European Cup final with Atleti in 1974, participating in the famous Battle of Glasgow, dubbed one of the most violent matches in football history. He also played for the Argentina national football team in the 1967 South American Championship. Ovejero was a very rough player, big & strong in duels and in the air and posessed a strong shot (which had neither technique nor curve, but he managed to score 2 goals from the back). It was said that he brought down the goal with one of his shots while playing in Vélez. Defensively, Ovejero had fine positioning, great recovery of the ball and he seemed focused in the back. He had acrobatic interventions from the back, with diving headers & scissors. However he wasn't a very technical player overall. His passing was poor even though he tried out some long balls from the back, but very inaccurate. Overall, Ovejero was the classic butcher from the back - and he rarely tried organizing the game, leaving the ball to Adelardo, Aragones, Irureta or even Martinez Jayo, his partner in the back.
