INFOS:One of the players who has best handled both legs in the history of Spanish football. On one occasion he even scored two direct free-kicks in the same game vs Barcelona in 1978, one with each leg, something that no one else has repeated. He also holds the record for scoring a goal against Real Madrid with four different shirts (Elche, RCD Español, F.C. Barcelona and Atlético de Madrid). It was said that after Luisito Suárez he had been the best Spanish midfielder of the seventies. He had a class far above the rest of the Spanish midfielders, he was a magnificent thrower and served the balls with the precision of a line shooter. A player with a great stride and perfect control of the ball, fantastic first touch, he shot with a lot of power and placement although he did not lavish shots on goal. He simply combined well with his teammates and had arrival from the second line, so it was no wonder that he was Barca's best scorer in the historic 1973/74 season. However, his physicality was his main flaw, not being stronger in duels in a physical era, being slow but with great bursts when he wanted to, and there was also his lack of spirit of sacrifice, which is still today the point of discussion over his career.
A player of exceptional quality, Marcial signed for Barça from Espanyol in the 1969-70 season and became a figure in one of the most famous midfields in Barça history alongside Rexach, Asensi, Cruyff and Sotil in the 1973/74 league season.
The Asturian stood out for his technical ability and for his intelligence on the field. Blessed with undoubted class, Marcial made the game look easy. Two footed, he was a brilliant passer of the ball and his versatility meant he could play in midfield or in attack. His best season came in the 1973/74 campaign when the team won the league and Marcial top scored with 18 goals. In 1977 he left the Club to sign for Atlético Madrid.
With the Spanish national team he started 15 times between 1966 and 1975. Marcial, both in his team and in the national team, alternated the position of midfielder with that of the interior.
