INFO:
The original Portland Timbers were founded in 1975. They played in the professional NASL up until 1982, year of the dissolution of the club. The Timbers finished league runners-up in their first ever season.
The Portland Timbers were refounded in 1985 as a semi-professional team under the name FC Portland. They changed name into Portland Timbers in 1989. In 1990, they had the chance to play in the American Professional Soccer League, the de facto top tier league before the MLS. However, 1990 was also the year of the second folding of the team.
The third incarnation of the club appeared in 2000 and played in the American second tier division from 2001 to 2010. They folded at the end of that season consequently to the announcement made one year before of a Portland Timbers franchise being added to the MLS. The current version of the Timbers has been part of the MLS since 2011.
