Lisandro López is an Argentine footballer who plays as a center-back. Born in Villa Constitución, Santa Fe (01/09/1989), he left his hometown as a teenager to join the youth ranks of Chacarita Juniors, where he made his professional debut on 22 August, 2009, in a 1-2 loss to Tigre. He moved to Arsenal de Sarandí in 2010 under coach Gustavo Alfaro, and an injury to a teammate gave him his first sustained run in the team. From the 2012 Torneo Apertura, he held down a starting place as Arsenal won the Torneo Inicial 2012, the only major league title in the club's history, and López was named Argentina's Footballer of the Year that same season. His form at Sarandí drew interest from Boca Juniors, River Plate, Santos, and other European teams. In mid-2013, Benfica signed him for around €4 million on a three-season contract, and after a loan season at Getafe, he established himself at the Águias, winning four Primeira Liga titles, two Taça da Liga trophies, a Taça de Portugal, and two Supertaças. In 2017-18, he joined Internazionale on loan under coach Luciano Spalletti, playing a single Serie A match before a further loan took him to Genoa. He then moved to Boca Juniors, first on loan in 2019 and permanently soon after, becoming a regular in the Xeneize back line and winning the 2018 Supercopa Argentina, the 2020 Copa de la Liga, and the 2021 Copa Argentina. Brief spells at Tijuana, Al-Khaleej, and Burgos followed, along with a stint at Paraguay's Olimpia in the 2025 Copa Libertadores, before he returned to Argentina in July 2025 to sign with Belgrano as a free agent. López started 15 of Belgrano's 20 matches in the Torneo Apertura 2026 and was a key figure in central defense as the club, coached by Ricardo Zielinski, reached the final for the first time in its history. Sidelined by injury for the match itself, he was part of the squad that came from behind to beat River Plate 3-2 at the Estadio Mario Alberto Kempes on 24 May, 2026, winning Belgrano's first-ever Primera División title, and he was named to the tournament's Team of the Season, one of its two center-backs.

López made four appearances for the senior national team, all between 2011 and 2012. He debuted on 16 March, 2011, starting a 4-1 friendly win over Venezuela on the same day the Estadio Bicentenario in San Juan was inaugurated. Coach Alejandro Sabella later included him in Argentina's provisional 30-man list for the 2014 FIFA World Cup, though he was left out of the final squad before the tournament. A tall, right-footed defender, López was originally scouted at Chacarita as a centre-back comfortable on either side of a pairing, a versatility he kept for the rest of his career, along with the heading ability he had developed as a young forward. That aerial threat showed up in the numbers at Arsenal de Sarandí, where he scored roughly once every five league matches and close to once every six across all competitions, an unusual return for a defender, who was, at the time, considered the best center-back in the country. He carried that same reading of the game into his third act in Argentine football: at Belgrano, local press pointed to his anticipation and his sense of when to step out and cut a passing lane, qualities that also let him organize the back line and cover for whoever played alongside him. When Belgrano signed him as a free agent in 2025, he had also drawn interest from diehard city rivals, Talleres, later saying that joining the Pirata had simply "been the priority." His father, Pedro López, played as an amateur centre-back for Parque Sur, and his brother Lucas also became a professional footballer, appearing for Platense and Douglas Haig. López also holds Spanish nationality, obtained during his years in Spain with Getafe and Burgos.
