BalancedINFO:Juan Ignacio Mercier is an Argentine former footballer who played as a defensive midfielder. Born in Campana, Buenos Aires (02/02/1980) he started playing football as a forward in Campana Juniors, a team from his hometown; Then, he went to the youth team of Villa Dálmine, also in the city of Campana. Towards the end of the 1990s, and due to the absence of financial resources, Mercier had to leave football and began working as a bricklayer. Despite having retired, Mercier received an offer from Flandria, back then in the Primera B Metropolitana, which he accepted. He began playing in the fourth division of Jáuregui's team, slowly reaching a place among the starters. He debuted on October 7, 2000, at the age of twenty, against Deportivo Español. Later, 'Pichi' would play for Deportivo Morón, Tristán Suárez, and Platense, all three in the third division. His debut in the Primera División came in 2007 with Argentinos Juniors, a club where he would become an icon with more than 100 games played and a championship under his belt. In July 2011, he was transferred for 1 million dollars to Al-Nassr of Saudi Arabia where he played only 10 games. Six months later he was transferred to Al Wasl in the United Arab Emirates, under the command of Diego Armando Maradona, where he played 9 games and did not score goals for him.
On July 20, 2012, he transferred to C.A. San Lorenzo de Almagro, where he is still an idol today. Mercier's first months in San Lorenzo were somewhat poor due to the poor physical condition with which he had arrived from the Arab Gulf, but as time went by, Mercier managed to get ready to earn a place and become a piece fundamental for the team, and with the arrival of Juan Antonio Pizzi he started gaining more and more minutes. Mercier was one of the best players in the San Lorenzo champion of everything. He was a starter in all the games played in the 2013 Torneo Inicial in which San Lorenzo emerged as champion; he was key in a large part of the 2014 Copa Libertadores games, the most important title in the history of San Lorenzo, and finally, in 2015 he would not only win the Supercopa Argentina, but he would also be awarded the Jorge Newbery award for the best player of the year in Argentina. For the National Team, he would play 3 games against the Central American teams of Haiti, Jamaica, and Costa Rica.
