Sebastián Blanco is an Argentinian footballer who plays as a winger, side-midfielder, or advanced midfielder. Born in Lomas de Zamora, Buenos Aires (15/03/1988), Blanco started his career at C.A. Lanús in 2006. With Lanús, on December 2, 2007, and against Boca Juniors in La Bombonera, he would win the Apertura Tournament with the guidance of coach Ramón Cabrero, thus giving the "garnets" their first local championship. In that championship, he would play 9 games out of 19 and scored 2 goals, against San Martín de San Juan and Rosario Central. Blanco played a total of 141 matches with the Lanús shirt, in which he scored 19 goals, gave 22 assists, was cautioned 31 times, and saw red on two others. In the First Division, he participated in 114 games and scored 17 goals. He also played 25 matches in international competitions, with 2 goals. On January 7, 2011, he would emigrate to European football, more precisely to Ukrainian football, to play for Metalist Kharkiv, which at that time was made up of his compatriots Cristian Villagra and Jonathan Cristaldo. The sale was for 6 million euros and a 5-year contract. On March 2, 2011, less than two months after arriving in Ukraine, he would suffer his first serious injury, a torn cruciate ligament, and a meniscal complication during his team's training session prior to a friendly in Turkey. In July 2014, as a result of the civil war in eastern Ukraine and the downing of Malaysia Airlines Flight 17, he expressed his decision not to return to the Metalist club. At the same time, an Argentine player and five Brazilians left FK Shakhtar Donetsk for the same reason: in the Ukrainian club, he played a total of 68 games and scored 10 goals per league and played 22 games scoring 3 goals in international tournaments. On August 30, 2014, Blanco left Ukrainian side Metalist Kharkiv to sign for English club West Bromwich Albion. Having played only 3 games for the English team, on January 20, 2015, San Lorenzo de Almagro acquired him for a 6-month loan with a purchase option to compete in the defense of the Copa Libertadores de América won the previous year. On June 18, 2015, San Lorenzo announced the purchase of 100% of the pass for a total of 2 million euros and a 3-year contract. On 2 February 2017, Blanco was transferred from San Lorenzo to the Portland Timbers of Major League Soccer. Blanco was signed as a Designated Player. On 11 September 2018, Blanco was named MLS Player of the Week for Week 28 of the 2018 season after scoring a brace in a 2–0 victory over the Colorado Rapids. On 10 October 2018, Blanco received a second Player of the Week award of the season after scoring two goals and an assist in Portland's 4–1 win over Real Salt Lake. Blanco signed a multi-year extension to his Designated Player contract on 29 October 2019. On 13 August 2020, Blanco was named MLS is Back Player of the Tournament for his contributions toward the Timbers' victory. On 16 May 2022, Blanco was awarded MLS Player of the Week for Week 11 of the 2022 season in recognition of his performance in a 7–2 win over Sporting Kansas City in which he notched two goals and two assists.
