Born in Santa Rosa, La Pampa (24/12/1998), Alexis, like his brothers Kevin and Francis and his father Carlos, began his sporting career at Argentinos Juniors, debuting on October 30, 2016, at the age of 16. Alexis had outstanding performances in the La Paternal team, winning the Primera B Nacional 2016-17 and allowing the Red Bugs to return to the First Division. On January 21, 2019, Brighton & Hove Albion of the English Premier League signed him, making a record sale for Argentinos Juniors. In June 2019 was loaned to Boca Juniors to have playing time, due to the delay in processing the visa for England (Alexis was still playing for Argentinos while waiting for the visa). In Boca, he played just a few games but with great performances, which led him to win the hearts of the fans. In January 2020, Brighton would finally get his work permit so he would leave the riverside club with which he had won the 2019-20 First Division earlier that year. After more than 100 games for the Seagulls, helping them reach their best-ever position (6th) and qualifying for their first-ever international competition (the UEFA Europa League), on June 8, 2023, his £35 million signing for Liverpool FC was confirmed. His debut for Liverpool came in a friendly against Karlsruher SC where he scored an assist for the last goal of the match. He made his debut for the Argentina national football team on September 5, 2019, while playing for Boca Juniors. His debut came in a friendly match against Chile. After his good performance, he was called up to the senior team again at the end of that same year for another friendly tour led by Lionel Scaloni. In January 2022, he was called up again to compete in the Conmebol qualifiers for the World Cup. After Giovani Lo Celso's injury, his name entered the list of those called up to compete in the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. He played six of the seven Cup games, having only been absent in the first game, which ended in a 1-2 defeat against Saudi Arabia. From the second game of the group stage, he consolidated himself in the starting midfield. In the third match of the group stage, on November 30, 2022, he scored his first official goal with the national team against Poland. On December 18 he participated in the World Cup final, where he assisted Di María for the 2-0 partial. Argentina would win 4-2 on penalties against France and thus become world champion with Mac Allister being one of the main players of the team. Spoiler: show |
