Born in Ramos Mejía, La Matanza (26/06/1981), he began his career at San Lorenzo in 2003, in a match for the Copa Sudamericana against The Strongest from Bolivia. It wasn't until the 2004/05 season, following Saja's departure, that Orión started to have more involvement in the team. At the beginning of 2007, he became an important part of the San Lorenzo team, and that same year, he won the Torneo Clausura for them. In 2008, Orión was largely responsible for his team's elimination from the Copa Libertadores against LDU Quito, due to a glaring error trying to control the ball inside his own penalty area. 2009 marked his last year wearing the blue and red jersey, as he was transferred to Estudiantes de La Plata. At Estudiantes, he won the 2010 Torneo Apertura, with a very good performance. In 2011, Boca Juniors and Estudiantes de La Plata agreed on the transfer of the goalkeeper for a fee close to 1.3 million euros. He debuted with the xeneize squad on August 7, 2011, in a 0-0 draw against Club Olimpo. Despite a mediocre start by the team, as the matches progressed, Julio César Falcioni's team would become more solid, playing better football and gradually extending their lead in the league until December 4 of that year when Boca was crowned champion of the Torneo Apertura after defeating Banfield 3-0. That same year, Orión accumulated 13 clean sheets, becoming the goalkeeper who conceded the fewest goals in a short tournament in Argentine Primera División's history, with just six goals conceded in 19 matches. In the 2012 Copa Libertadores, Orión had phenomenal performances, particularly remembered for his matches in the round of 16 against Unión Española and in the semifinals against Universidad de Chile. Unfortunately, in the 32nd minute of the final, he suffered a knee injury while the match was still 0-0, sidelining him for 3 months and ultimately losing the final. Despite this setback, he would secure his second title at Boca by winning the Copa Argentina 2011-12. While the league campaigns of the 2012-13 season were mediocre (even finishing second to last in the Torneo Final), Boca still reached the quarterfinals of the Libertadores, and Orión established himself as the best goalkeeper in the country by a wide margin. In the 2013-14 season, due to Juan Román Riquelme's and Rolando Schiavi's absences, Orión became Boca's new captain. In the 2015-16 season, during the Copa Libertadores semifinals against the modest Independiente del Valle from Ecuador, Boca lost both matches, and Orión made an error at a crucial moment, facilitating the club's elimination from the competition. Finally, that year, after playing more than 200 matches for the riverside club, he left Boca Juniors and joined Racing Club as a free agent. In Racing, he had some very forgettable performances, in addition to making several errors that cost points to the Avellaneda team. On June 23, 2017, Orión was confirmed as a reinforcement for Colo-Colo, replacing the international Paraguayan goalkeeper Justo Villar, signing a contract for 18 months. Orión's performances at Colo-Colo improved over time, even being awarded as the best goalkeeper of the year 2018 in Chile. On January 30, 2019, he suffered a ruptured tendon in his left shoulder after colliding with a player from Everton in a friendly match, staying away from the fields for almost half a year and finally deciding to retire from all professional activity at the age of 38. He was first called up to the Argentina National Team by Alfio Basile, as the third goalkeeper behind Roberto Abbondanzieri and Juan Pablo Carrizo, to participate in the 2007 Copa America held in Venezuela. The goalkeeper didn't play any minutes in the competition. In 2011, he was called up by Alejandro Sabella to play in the Superclásico of the Americas against Brazil, being the team's goalkeeper in both matches, conceding two goals in the second round in Brazil. Additionally, in the following edition of the tournament, Orión played the rematch match in which Argentina won 2-1 but lost in the penalty shootout. In 2012, after recovering from the injury in the Copa Libertadores final, he was called up as the substitute goalkeeper for some of the matches in the qualifiers for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. These call-ups continued for the rest of the qualifying matches, leading Alejandro Sabella to call him up as the third goalkeeper for the Argentine national team for the FIFA World Cup. Throughout the tournament, the goalkeeper did not play any minutes. Spoiler: show |
