BalancedINFO:Milton Casco is an Argentine footballer who plays as a full-back on both sides, but mainly as a left-back. Born in María Grande, Entre Ríos (11/04/1988), Casco started his professional career playing for Gimnasia y Esgrima in 2008. Milton played all his youth as a winger and as a midfielder, until Leonardo Madelón, Gimnasia's coach, called him up to join the squad, noticing his qualities as a right-back and making him debut. Casco played over 70 games in four years, but always alternating. As a substitute in Gimnasia, he met and impressed Gerardo Martino, who without hesitation requested him for Newell’s. Tata transformed Casco into a left-back, due to his ambidextrous quality. "My dad always made me kick with my left," said Milton once in an interview. His father had played in the Paraná League and instilled in him the importance of training the weaker foot. Milton benefited both defensively and offensively from this quality. Defensively, he was comfortable with tackles on his side, and offensively, he could use both profiles, the left for crosses and the right to cut inside and shoot. This way, he scored 9 goals for the Rosario team, three with his left and six with the other. His speed to attack and return, his jumping to defend aerial balls and beat taller forwards, his defensive tackles, his aggressiveness in marking, and his goal-scoring ability caught the attention of Marcelo Bielsa, the coach of Olympique de Marseille, who requested his signing, but after Bielsa resigned from the French club, the transfer fell through. That same year, though, he joined River Plate.
Marcelo Gallardo secured who was one of the best full-backs in the country and further developed him. While he occasionally participated in Newell’s internal game, Milton was more of an external player or inside finisher. But River's coach prompted a change in his career. Enchanted by Guardiola's style, he asked Casco to take the midfield occasionally. The Spaniard, who was then coaching Bayern Munich, began to ask his full-backs to play closer to the center circle. This was advantageous for adding passing options in the circuit, and when the ball is lost in attack, recovery is instant. With Gallardo, Casco was asked to close out as a double pivot with his side-back partner. In the 2018 Libertadores final, before Juan Fernando Quintero's goal, Casco moved across three-quarters of the field, in the center, like a creative midfielder. While Casco didn't have the best start at Núñez, coinciding with the most unstable period of the Gallardo era as players were leaving the club after a Sudamericana and a Libertadores win, 2017 found him with a starting position, and gradually, he became not only one of the most outstanding players in his position but also one of the most complete players of the team. Milton is a player without loud statements, always working from a young age to improve. He had coaches like Martino and Gallardo who enhanced his abilities, the first who established him as a great full-back, and the second as a more complete player. Since his transfer to Newell's Old Boys in 2012, Casco has been one of the top full-backs of the decade in Argentina and South America, winning numerous titles in one of the greatest River teams ever assembled and being capped by the Argentine National Team.
