Born in Osorno, Los Lagos (06/12/1942), Marcos made his professional debut in 1962 for Universidad de Chile, where he is considered one of the greatest players alongside Leonel Sánchez, part of the legendary "Ballet Azul," the club's most successful era. Nicknamed "El Siete Pulmones" for his incredible stamina, he is regarded as one of Chile's greatest footballers and often hailed as the country's best midfielder of all time, at the time drawing comparisons to Alfredo Di Stéfano for his extraordinary playing style. He was recognized as the best attacking midfielder in South America in 1965, 1966, 1967, and 1970, and showcased his talent as one of the continent's finest players in the 1966 FIFA World Cup, earning praise from English, Italian, Soviet, German, Brazilian, Spanish, and French media outlets, who argued that he "had surpassed the standard of his peers to reach a global level." Football Magazine hailed him as the best left midfielder in the Sunderland and Middlesbrough group. He was part of the ideal team of the 1967 Copa América, where he won the Bronze Boot and was one of the tournament's standout players. He represented the national team from 1963 to 1969, playing 43 matches, including 22 official games and 21 friendlies, scoring 10 goals. He was a midfielder ahead of his time, versatile and complete. Due to his characteristics, Arturo Vidal, one of Chile's greatest players ever was often also deemed as the "right-footed Marcos". He played in all sectors of the field, never stopping running, hence he was not tied to a fixed position, although he was labeled as an "all-field player." When the legendary Luis Álamos was asked for a word to define Rubén Marcos, he used: "display." Another important aspect of Rubén Marcos was his excellent ball handling and ability to create and score. According to Carlos Contreras, a historic defender of the Ballet Azul, Rubén Marcos was very complete: "He went up and then came down, as midfielders should. He's the type of midfielder demanded by modern football. He created and scored... I can't understand why now they divide the midfielders into creators or stoppers when in Marcos, you had both." In addition to his versatility, deployment, and technique, his scoring ability must be added, where he even played some seasons as a forward. In the same game, he was able to neutralize players like Francisco Valdés, Néstor Isella, Juan Carlos Sarnari, or Alberto Spencer, and then score goals in attack. Despite being highly skilled technically, he was constantly praised for his extraordinary ability to neutralize opposing midfielders. Besides defending, in which he also excelled, he was an excellent ball retriever, playmaker, provider of assists, and also a goalscorer, with powerful shots and headers. |

this player deserves a rethink for wfa/wff he was naturally adept with either foot, even when passing or dribbling with absolutely no opposition pressure i would suggest a wfa/wff of 6/6 at the very least, maybe even 6/7 |
