Defence-MindedINFO:Aldo Bobadilla is a former Paraguayan footballer who played as a goalkeeper. Born in Pedro Juan Caballero, Amambay (04/20/1976), he began his career playing for several years with Cerro Porteño, with whom he achieved two absolute titles in 2001 and 2004, the latter as captain. As a member of an important generation of Paraguayan goalkeepers, the 6' 4" man was vital with his saves in leading Club Libertad to the semifinals of the Copa Libertadores. He was a standout figure in the quarterfinals of the 2006 edition, against River Plate, which he eliminated on that occasion. He had his first stint in Argentina when he defended the goal of Gimnasia y Esgrima La Plata in 2005, before returning just over a year later, this time to play for Boca Juniors. He made his debut on August 6th in a 3-0 win vs. C.A. Banfield. At the end of that season, he was champion of the Recopa Sudamericana. He won the Copa Libertadores in 2007 as a substitute. He played 45 minutes replacing Mauricio Caranta, who had been injured during the match against Cúcuta Deportivo. On September 14th, 2007, he arrived in Colombia to finalize his signing with Independiente Medellín, a club that was having a bad semester, with the most goals conceded in the Torneo Finalización along with Millonarios, with 17 goals against. Aldo Bobadilla arrived to try to reduce these numbers and was a mainstay for the team. Despite not having played the entire tournament, he ended up being the goalkeeper with the fewest goals conceded. He was the most important signing of the year in the Colombian tournament and later a fundamental piece for the achievement of Independiente Medellín's fifth title, also being its captain and becoming an idol for all the fans. Both the public and the specialized media in that country have rated him as one of the team's great figures thanks to his excellent performances. After the conclusion of his national team's participation in the 2010 World Cup, the goalkeeper signed with Corinthians of Brazil. At the beginning of 2011, he joined Olimpia of Paraguay, rival of Cerro Porteño, the club where he emerged as a player and even served as captain. On July 29, 2011, he suddenly ended his career as a player upon confirming his involvement with the technical staff of the Paraguayan national team, led by former footballer Francisco Arce, who had also just been appointed.
He was an international with the Paraguayan national football team. His great height, security, and excellent reflexes made him a valid alternative to Justo Villar, the choice of Gerardo Martino, the national team coach, to replace the space left by José Luis Chilavert. In the 2006 World Cup in Germany, he came on as a substitute during the first match following Villar's injury, just seven minutes into the game against England. For this reason, he started the remaining two matches. In the qualifying phase for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, a competition for which the team ultimately qualified, he was called up for all the matches, being considered for the starting eleven on only one occasion. This was in the 4-2 defeat against Bolivia in La Paz on June 18, 2008. In July 2011, immediately after retiring from professional football, Bobadilla became the goalkeeping coach for the national team.
