INFO:
Juan Carlos Henao is a former Colombian footballer who played as a goalkeeper. Born in Medellín, Antioquia (12/30/1971), he began his professional career at Once Caldas on October 4, 1992, in a 0-0 draw against Atlético Nacional. He remained with the Manizales club for 12 consecutive seasons, briefly interrupted by a loan to Atlético Bucaramanga in 2002. During his time at the Blanco Blanco, he achieved a runner-up finish in 1998, played in a Copa Conmebol, and participated in three editions of the Copa Libertadores. In 2003, he secured the first title in Once Caldas' history by winning that year's Torneo Apertura, and in 2004, he made continental history by winning the Copa Libertadores de América and being named the best goalkeeper of the tournament. Following impressive performances against São Paulo and defending champion Boca Juniors, whom they defeated on penalties in the final, Henao was named the best goalkeeper in America by Conmebol and the ninth-best goalkeeper of the year by the IFFHS. After this triumph, Henao transferred to Santos Futebol Clube in Brazil, where he stayed for a short period due to an injury but managed to play several matches in the Copa Libertadores. In 2006, he returned to Colombia to play in the Torneo Finalización for Millonarios. The following year, he moved to Venezuela to play for Unión Atlético Maracaibo, participating in two Copa Libertadores and finishing as runner-up in the 2007 Copa Venezuela. Finally, in 2009, he returned to Colombia to play for the newly promoted Real Cartagena, and the following year, he returned to his beloved Once Caldas, where he won the 2010 Torneo Finalización and finished as runner-up in the 2011 Torneo Finalización against Junior de Barranquilla, ultimately retiring in 2016 at the age of 44 with 610 matches played for Once Caldas.

For the Colombian National Team, Juan Carlos Henao played in 12 matches. He was called up by Colombia for the 2000 CONCACAF Gold Cup, where Colombia finished as runner-up, losing in the final to Canada, and for the 2003 Gold Cup, where Colombia reached the quarterfinals. Henao was the starting goalkeeper in all of Colombia's matches in the 2004 Copa América, playing against Bolivia, Peru, Venezuela, Costa Rica, Uruguay, and Argentina, with his team finishing in fourth place in the competition. Juan Carlos Henao is the second Colombian goalkeeper with the most official matches played (784), surpassed only by Miguel Calero, who played 945 matches. With 610 matches for Once Caldas, he is the footballer who has played the most matches for a Colombian club, surpassing Jorge Bermúdez, who played 608 matches for Deportes Quindío and holds the record for being the goalkeeper with the most matches played in Categoría Primera A, as well as being the ninth player with the most matches in the history of the league. Finally, in a publication of the best goalkeepers of the 21st century by the IFFHS, he was ranked 39th.
