Born in Adrogué, Almirante Brown (29/07/1985), Maidana emerged from the youth divisions of Club Atlético Los Andes, debuting in the Primera B Nacional at the end of the 2003-04 season, year in which Los Andes got relegated. The following season, he played in the Primera B Metropolitana and was called up by coach Francisco Ferraro for the 2005 FIFA U-20 World Cup. That same year, he was acquired by Boca Juniors and debuted in January 2006 in a summer tournament for coach Alfio Basile, but without seeing much playtime. Under Ricardo La Volpe, he had more continuity, playing as a left-back. He won five titles with Boca: the 2007 Copa Libertadores, the 2006 and 2008 Recopa Sudamericana, and the Clausura 2006 and Apertura 2008. After a short spell at F.C. Metalist Kharkiv and C.A. Banfield, in 2010, he was signed by River Plate. On November 16, 2010, he scored his first goal in the "superclásico" against Boca. During the 2011 Torneo Clausura, River was relegated, but Maidana expressed his desire to stay with the club to help them return to the Primera División, which they achieved in 2012. On September 23, 2012, he suffered a severe injury but returned to play after 7 months of recovery. In 2013, he scored the only goal of the match against San Lorenzo in the Copa Sudamericana. He was crowned champion of the 2014 Torneo Final with River and later won the Copa Campeonato, the 2014 Copa Sudamericana, and the 2015 Recopa Sudamericana. In the 2015 Copa Libertadores, Maidana showed a high level of performance and was part of the 2015 South American Team of the Year. He also won the 2016 Recopa Sudamericana and the 2015-16 and 2016-17 Copa Argentina. In 2019, Maidana joined Deportivo Toluca F.C. and after just two seasons in Mexico, decided to return to River Plate as a free agent in 2021. Although his participation was reduced since his return, Maidana managed to win four more titles with River, including two Primera División championships and two Trofeo de Campeones titles. In December 2023, he announced his departure from River after confirming that he would not renew his contract, ending his career with 16 titles won and 319 matches played. Spoiler: show |
